Nithra was established in 2004 as India’s first freestanding, comprehensive center dedicated to the education, training, diagnosis, and treatment of sleep disorders. It is led by an American Board-Certified Sleep Medicine specialist, ensuring high standards of clinical expertise and care.

Fellowship in Sleep Medicine

Our institution is accredited by the Indian Sleep Disorders Association (ISDA) and the Indian Society for Sleep Research (ISSR). Apollo Academics has also collaborated with Nithra for the Fellowship in Sleep Medicine program, reflecting our shared commitment to advancing education, training and excellence in sleep medicine.

Nithra has been accredited by the ISDA for training doctors through a post-doctoral Fellowship in Sleep Medicine. The program provides focused academic learning, clinical exposure and practical training in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.

Nithra was previously accredited by The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University to train candidates for a one-year post-doctoral Fellowship in Sleep Medicine. It was the first university-accredited specialty training certification in Sleep Medicine. This university fellowship program has now been discontinued.

Academic Excellence Award

Professor K. L. Nagarajan Award

This award was introduced in 2012 by Dr. Nagarajan Ramakrishnan, Director of Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences, in loving memory of his father, the late Professor K. L. Nagarajan.

The award, together with a cash prize, is presented every year to honour the best-performing student in the Fellowship in Sleep Medicine examination conducted by the Indian Sleep Disorders Association.
